A Ford Bronco lemon law lawyer looks past that letter to what California law asks. How many times has Ford had the Bronco for this problem, and is it fixed?

A Bronco that keeps failing after dealer visits can qualify for a buyback, a refund of what you paid, or a replacement, a substantially identical new Bronco. Check your VIN through NHTSA's recall lookup.

Cline APC, whose practice is limited to lemon law and consumer warranty claims, meets Bronco owners in La Jolla and Poway.

When a Bronco Runs Rough, Ticks and Then Stalls, What Will a Lemon Law Lawyer Ask?

A lawyer asks what you felt and when. Ford's recall filings describe rough running with a malfunction lamp before power loss, and ticking with a small oil leak on some 2.3-liter engines. They also describe stalls on low fuel in the heat, smoke from the vents, grinding after transmission work and trouble holding park.

NHTSA's complaint data, pulled October 2, 2026, lists 966 complaints about 2021 through 2026 Broncos, not counting the Bronco Sport. Of those, 156 named the engine. Those reports are not findings, but phrases like these belong on your repair orders.

  • It runs rough and the check engine light comes on before it loses power.
  • It ticks or taps, with a small oil drip.
  • It stalls on a hot grade with the fuel light on.
  • Smoke came from the vents or a cluster warning lit up.
  • It grinds or clunks underneath after transmission work.
  • It creeps in reverse or neutral.

Say you drive your 2022 Bronco home to Ramona on State Route 67 on a hot August afternoon with the fuel light on. The engine stalls on the grade. That matches the conditions Ford described for its low-pressure fuel pump campaign.

Ticking, Tapping and a Small Oil Leak on a 2.3-Liter

Ford lists ticking or tapping, a small engine leak while running, or a lit check engine light as warning signs. Those signs come from its roller finger follower recall on 2025 and 2026 four-cylinders. Report each one at a Ford dealer and make sure the order records it. A noise complaint logged before a failure can mark the first visit for the defect.

Does the 2.3, 2.7 or 3.0 Liter Engine Change a Ford Bronco Lemon Law Lawyer's Approach?

It changes where the lawyer looks first. Federal fuel economy records list a 2.3-liter turbocharged four with a 10-speed automatic or 7-speed manual. A 2.7-liter turbocharged V6 comes with the 10-speed only, and from 2022 the Raptor carries a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6. Ford scopes engine recalls by that split.

Say you bought a 2022 Bronco Badlands with the 2.7-liter V6 at a dealer in Pacific Beach, and the rough idle returns after two visits. So the engine points a Ford Bronco lemon law lawyer to the right recall.

What Does Each Bronco Engine Recall Do, and How Does a Lemon Law Attorney Read It?

Recall 24V635000 reached 15,835 Broncos from 2021 and 2022 with the 2.7-liter or 3.0-liter V6. Their intake valves can crack and cause catastrophic engine damage. The remedy is an engine cycle test that sends passing engines home and replaces failing ones. Those two outcomes leave very different repair orders.

Say your 2025 Bronco Big Bend, driven daily from Rancho Bernardo, drew an interim letter in June 2026. Ford says the engine may fail, but no fix is scheduled yet, so every dealer visit in that gap belongs in your file.

Ford Bronco Engine Cycle Test Results and What They Mean

Ford's Part 573 report for 24V635 describes the test. Dealers first check how many engine cycles the Bronco has built up. Under Ford's threshold, the technician runs high-rpm cycles, and engines that fail get replaced. In contrast, a pass sends the Bronco home with its original engine. That visit still records your complaint, so ask the advisor to write your symptom on the order.

Interim Letters With No Remedy for 2025 and 2026 Four-Cylinders

Two of the three 2026 four-cylinder recalls had no remedy ready when Ford filed. Instead, Ford sent interim letters and promised a second letter once parts exist. All three also list the Explorer, which the firm sees in Ford Explorer lemon law claims. An interim letter does not end Ford's duty to repair a defect you report under warranty. If the dealer holds the Bronco for a long block, keep the drop-off and pickup dates.

A Transfer Case Recall Triggered by an Earlier Dealer Repair

Recall 26V236000 exists because a prior dealer repair created the risk. Specifically, removing and reinstalling the transmission or transfer case could leave the joint between them misaligned. Ford updated its workshop manual on February 26, 2026, and the recall covers 4,922 Broncos repaired before then. Separately, dealer bulletin 22-2428 on harsh or delayed shifts covers some 2021 through 2023 Broncos, by transmission and build date.

Does Reporting Rough Running Before the Recall Letter Arrives Help My Attorney?

It does. A dealer that runs a test and sends the Bronco home should still record your symptom and any stored code. An early rough-running visit counts as Ford's chance to fix the defect. It also sets the odometer reading for the mileage offset, Ford's deduction for miles driven before that first visit.

Say your 2021 Bronco lost power on State Route 52 in the summer of 2024, and you paid an independent shop to diagnose it. Ford's 24V635000 report points to a reimbursement plan for owners who paid before notice.

Why an Outside Shop Visit Adds Nothing to Ford's Count

California counts repairs by the manufacturer or its agents, which means an authorized Ford dealer's service department. An independent shop is not Ford's agent. Its work can also give Ford an argument about who touched the part last, which muddies an otherwise clean repair history. For that reason, a Ford Bronco lemon law lawyer advises keeping warranty complaints at Ford dealers while a claim builds.

Will a Lift Kit Sink a Ford Bronco Lemon Law Claim?

A lift kit does not end a claim by itself, but Ford may argue that a lift or a tune caused the failure. Parts that did not come from Ford, installed by the dealer or by you, also stay out of a buyback refund. A case under Ford's April 25, 2025 election, known as its elected track, requires you to disclose any modification. That includes 35-inch tires added in Santee, so tell your lawyer early.

Does a Replacement Engine Reset the Count a Ford Bronco Lemon Law Lawyer Keeps?

No. A new engine is another attempt on the same defect. In Ford lemon law claims, section 1793.22(b) treats Ford as having had a reasonable number of repair attempts, the fair number of chances it gets. Inside 18 months or 18,000 miles, two repairs of a defect likely to cause death or serious bodily injury qualify.

Four repairs of the same nonconformity also qualify, as do more than 30 cumulative days out of service for repair. That rule is the presumption, a legal shortcut that moves the burden onto Ford. The first two routes need direct notice, a written notice to Ford, if its booklet disclosed the duty. Say the new engine in your 2022 Bronco Raptor throws the same warning eight months later. That visit counts as another attempt on one nonconformity, a defect that substantially impairs use, value or safety.

Does Off-Road Use Take a Ford Bronco Out of Lemon Law Coverage?

Trail use does not remove a street-registered Bronco from the lemon law. The off-highway exclusion in section 1793.22, subdivision (e)(2), covers only vehicles left unregistered because they run exclusively off the highways. However, Rodriguez v. FCA US, LLC (2024) 17 Cal.5th 189 held that remaining factory coverage alone does not make a used car new. Only a new car warranty issued with that sale changes the result. A certified pre-owned Bronco usually falls outside the new-vehicle remedy, though the court did not settle that question.

Why the First Rough-Running Visit Lowers the Buyback Deduction

Section 1793.2, subdivision (d)(2)(C), multiplies the price by the miles at the first dealer visit for the defect, then divides by 120,000. So a $54,000 Bronco first brought in at 12,000 miles carries a $5,400 offset, and the buyback calculator runs your figures. On Ford's elected track, section 871.21 requires suit within one year after the applicable express warranty, the written coverage, ends. Its six-year outer limit pauses for repair days and for up to 60 days after a pre-suit notice, the demand described in section 871.24. Warranty booklets also differ by model year. For 2026-model Broncos, the 2026 Model Year Ford Warranty Guide covers listed engine parts under Powertrain for 5 years or 60,000 miles, with Bumper to Bumper at 3 years or 36,000, whichever comes first.

What Engine Dates and Campaign Numbers Should You Bring to a Ford Bronco Lemon Law Lawyer?

Bring the purchase or lease contract, the window sticker, every repair order, each recall letter including interim letters, and any BBB Auto Line paperwork. A free consultation with Cline APC at (888) 982-6915 reads those papers for dates, symptoms and campaign numbers.

Ford's April 25, 2025 election into the newer procedures covers Broncos sold in 2025 and earlier. Ford must name the governing procedure when a Bronco is sold new in 2026 or later. Section 871.24 requires a pre-suit notice only before a suit that seeks civil penalties. Ford then has 30 days to offer a remedy and 60 days to finish, and meeting both keeps penalties out.

Say a Julian apple grower drives a Bronco on ranch roads, and its engine has two dealer visits. Section 1793.22(e)(2) covers a business vehicle under 10,000 pounds gross vehicle weight when the business registers five or fewer vehicles in California. BBB Auto Line, Ford's state-certified program listed by the Department of Consumer Affairs, comes before the presumption after timely written notice.

Cline APC also takes Ford F-150 lemon law claims and Ford lemon law claims from Poway. Civil Code section 1794(d) shifts fees and costs to Ford only when a buyer prevails. The firm explains its attorney fee arrangement first. No one can predict the outcome, but you can send the firm a message online to arrange your review.
