Does the SUV qualify, and what happens once FCA answers a lawsuit? For a Grand Cherokee sold new in 2025 or earlier, FCA's election into the newer lemon law procedures applies. In a suit filed with a lawyer, the disclosure and mediation rules in Code of Civil Procedure section 871.26 then fix nearly every early date.
A Grand Cherokee that keeps returning for the same steering, drivetrain or electrical fault can qualify under the Song-Beverly Act. The fault has to be a nonconformity, a defect that substantially impairs use, value or safety. The remedy is restitution, a buyback of the SUV, or a replacement with a substantially identical new one.
Warranty and lemon law disputes are all Cline APC handles, and its lawyers meet Grand Cherokee owners in La Jolla or Poway. If a lawsuit looks likely, call (888) 982-6915 before FCA's answer starts the calendar.
Which Grand Cherokee Problems Reported to NHTSA Should You Tell a Lawyer About?
Owners filed 1,955 NHTSA complaints on 2021 to 2026 Grand Cherokees as of September 23, 2026. The electrical system appears in 774, the engine in 434, forward collision avoidance in 268 and steering in 241. However, each count is an owner's report, not proof that a given Grand Cherokee is defective.
FCA's own recall filings describe steering that may bind or disconnect and 4xe power loss. Steering questions also drive Wrangler wobble claims, while electrical faults lead Jeep Compass claims. If your SUV does any of these, get the symptom onto a repair order in your own words.
- Steering feels hard to turn or binds.
- Steering control feels loose at speed.
- A 4xe loses drive power in traffic.
- The engine on a 4xe fails or shuts down.
- A shudder comes back after each repair.
- Electrical faults come and go.
Say your 4xe loses power twice on State Route 163 while you commute. Each event then belongs on a repair order the day it happens, with the time and any warning message.
Grand Cherokee L, Two-Row or 4xe, Which Version Does a Lawyer Match to FCA's Filings?
FCA's filings split by version. The coil spring and intermediate shaft campaigns name 2021 to 2023 Grand Cherokee L models along with 2022 and 2023 two-row models. Several campaigns target the 4xe plug-in hybrid, and one valve campaign reaches the 3.6-liter gas engine.
| Version | Model years | Campaign | What FCA's filing says |
|---|---|---|---|
| L and two-row | 2021 to 2023 L, 2022 and 2023 two-row | 23V413000, 26V051000, 26V562000 | Rear coil springs may detach |
| L and two-row | 2021 to 2023 L, 2022 and 2023 two-row | 23V352000 | Steering intermediate shaft may disconnect |
| Grand Cherokee | 2022 | 22V154000 | Steering rack bar could bind |
| 3.6-liter engine | 2021 WK, 2022, and 2021 and 2022 L | 22V284000 | Exhaust gas recirculation valve may stick open and cut power |
| 4xe | 2022 | 23V412000 | Engine may shut down after a module communication loss |
| 4xe | 2022 to 2026 | 25V576000 | Software may cause a loss of drive power |
| 4xe | 2022 to 2026 | 25V741000, replacing 24V720000 (2022 to 2024) | High-voltage battery may fail internally and lead to a fire |
| 4xe | 2023 to 2025 | 25V766000 | Engine debris may cause failure or a fire |
Say you bought a 2023 Grand Cherokee 4xe at Kearny Mesa Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram on Balboa Avenue. The coil spring, intermediate shaft and 4xe rows covering 2023 may match it. So check the VIN before the first meeting.
Why Did FCA File the Same Rear Spring Recall Three Times, and What Can a Lawyer Ask?
Campaign 23V413000 first said rear coil springs may have been installed incorrectly and could detach. FCA then filed 26V051000 in January 2026 and 26V562000 in September 2026, with the same description for overlapping 2021 to 2023 vehicles. Each later filing replaces the earlier ones. Because NHTSA's summaries do not say why, the repeats invite questions in a lawsuit.
Say your 2022 Grand Cherokee L gets a second recall letter for a spring the dealer already inspected. The later filing says vehicles repaired under the earlier campaign need the new remedy. Both visits belong in your repair history. Later, FCA's witness can be asked which vehicles each campaign covered.
Which Grand Cherokee Steering Parts Were Recalled?
Steering draws 241 owner complaints, and several campaigns also target steering parts directly, including these two. Campaign 22V154000 covers certain 2022 Grand Cherokees. Its rack bar may not have been hardened enough, which can bring difficulty steering or a loss of control. Under 23V352000, an incorrectly assembled intermediate shaft may disconnect from the universal joint. NHTSA data showed 44 campaigns across 2021 to 2026 Grand Cherokee model years as of September 29, 2026.
Plug-In Hybrid Power Loss and Engine Debris on the 4xe
Campaign 25V576000 covers certain 2022 to 2026 Grand Cherokee plug-in hybrids whose hybrid control processor software may cause a loss of drive power. Under 25V766000, debris inside the engine of certain 2023 to 2025 Grand Cherokee 4xe models may cause engine failure, power loss or an engine compartment fire. Under 25V741000, owners are advised to park outside, away from structures, and not to charge until the remedy is completed. NHTSA's recall lookup shows only open campaigns on your VIN, so keep the paperwork for completed ones.
What Can a Lawyer Do If the Dealer Keeps Writing Could Not Duplicate on a Grand Cherokee?
A could-not-duplicate visit still shows you presented the SUV for repair. Once a lawyer files a suit under FCA's election, FCA must produce its warranty claims on your VIN and its records of contact with you. Its witness must also answer questions on the diagnostic and repair procedures followed, so gaps become evidence.
For example, say three repair orders for the shudder each read could not duplicate. A Jeep Grand Cherokee lemon law lawyer then asks which test steps FCA's procedures told the technician to run. Any gap between those steps and the repair order then becomes evidence.
Records FCA Must Turn Over Within 60 Days of Answering
Section 871.26, subdivision (h), lists 17 categories FCA produces within 60 days of its answer, with no request needed. First come a same-year owner's manual, the warranties, the original invoice to the dealer and build records. They also cover the entire warranty transaction history, required field actions, related service bulletins and service manuals. If you sent a pre-suit repurchase request, a written demand before suing, call recordings and FCA's evaluation policies come too. The section applies only to suits filed on or after January 1, 2025, and not to owners without a lawyer.
Changes, Collisions and Military Service the Owner Discloses
Your side produces seven kinds of documents under subdivision (f), from the sales contract to repair orders, and answers eleven questions under subdivision (g). One asks for every modification after purchase, for example tint, a hitch or a remote-start module. Another reaches only collisions reported to an insurer before the defect first appeared. A third asks about military service. Civil Code section 1795.8 can reach a service member stationed in California, such as at Naval Base San Diego.
Do Two Steering Repairs Make a Grand Cherokee a Lemon, and Why Does a Lawyer Ask About Notice?
They can. A steering nonconformity likely to cause death or serious bodily injury fits the first route of the section 1793.22(b) presumption. Once its conditions are met, the presumption treats FCA as having had a reasonable number of repair attempts. Two or more repairs qualify, with direct notice to FCA at least once if the warranty requires it.
That shortcut covers only the first 18 months or 18,000 miles, whichever comes first. A second route takes four or more repairs of the same nonconformity, under the same notice rule. A third adds up time, so more than 30 cumulative days out of service for repair qualifies without any letter. FCA may try to overcome the presumption, yet a claim can also rest on the complete repair history once the window closes. Say your 2022 Grand Cherokee's steering binds twice, and you write to FCA after the second visit. The firm's Jeep lemon law lawyers can check whether that letter, sent inside the window, gives the direct notice the first route asks for.
The 150 Days After FCA Answers a Jeep Grand Cherokee Lemon Law Suit
The Department of Consumer Affairs shows FCA electing on April 25, 2025. Section 871.30 then extends that choice to Grand Cherokees sold in 2025 or earlier. When one is sold new in 2026 or later, FCA must state at the sale which procedure governs it, under section 871.29(d). On that elected track, disclosures are due 60 days after FCA's answer. Mediation must be on the calendar by day 90 and take place by day 150, while each side's two-hour deposition closes by day 120. Under subdivision (j), absent good cause, a missed document or deposition deadline costs $1,500 against the owner's attorney or $2,500 against FCA's.
Before filing, a Jeep Grand Cherokee lemon law lawyer also weighs the section 871.24 pre-suit notice. The statute makes it a precondition only for a suit that seeks civil penalties, the extra money a court may award for willful violations. FCA must receive it a full 30 days before filing. A compliant offer within 30 days of FCA's receipt, completed within 60, keeps penalties off the table, and missing either leaves them available.
Should a Jeep Grand Cherokee Owner Try CDSP Auto Line First?
Civil Code section 1793.22(c) delays your use of the presumption until you try a state-certified arbitration program. That applies only when FCA gave timely written notice of it. For Jeep, the Department of Consumer Affairs certifies CDSP Auto Line as that program. The department says it charges consumers nothing, and decisions usually come in about 40 days. FCA is bound by a decision only when you accept it, and program time extends the filing deadline. FCA's 2024 Jeep booklet also has a separate binding arbitration clause. You can reject it by letter within 30 days of delivery and of signing the Arbitration Acknowledgment Form. Your own booklet may differ.
A Grand Cherokee Lemon Law Buyback Worked Through
The mileage offset is a deduction for miles driven before the first shop visit for the problem. To figure it, multiply the price paid or payable by the miles at that visit. Then divide by 120,000. A $58,000 Grand Cherokee L first in at 4,500 miles carries a $2,175 offset, and the buyback calculator handles other figures. On the elected track, section 871.27 keeps a manufacturer rebate out of the price and takes off negative equity. Add-ons stay recoverable only when the selling dealer supplied them.
Section 871.27(g)(3) requires FCA to send the loan payoff within one business day of the SUV's return. Section 871.25 limits FCA to one release form, the Standardized SBA Release. Once FCA receives that release signed through your lawyer, section 871.27(g)(2) allows 30 days to complete the agreed buyback or replacement. After that, a $50 daily penalty runs unless the parties agree otherwise, and it does not apply if you fail to cooperate in good faith. Section 1794(d) lets a buyer who prevails recover costs and reasonable attorney fees, and Cline APC explains its fee arrangement at the start.
