Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Lemon Law Lawyer in San Diego
Many Sprinters do not stay the way they left the factory. Plumbers add shelving and ladder racks, and families add beds, galleys and house batteries. So when the van keeps failing, a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter lemon law lawyer sorts defects between Mercedes-Benz and whoever changed it.

Civil Code section 1793.22's definition of a new motor vehicle decides first whether a work van or camper counts. The Sprinter booklet names Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC as warrantor for the van and its propulsion. Upfitters and coach builders, however, answer for what they added.
Every Cline APC case is a lemon law or warranty claim. Sprinter owners and lessees, meaning people who lease, come from all over San Diego County.
Reach Cline APC at (888) 982-6915, and say whether the van was upfitted, converted or left stock.
When a Sprinter Loses Power, Does a Lemon Law Lawyer Blame the Van or the Upfit?
Either can be the cause, and recall filings show the factory conditions. Daimler Vans USA's campaigns 24V166000 and 24V225000 describe lost drive power on certain 2023 Sprinters. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) logged 165 complaints on 2021 to 2026 model years, pulled September 29, 2026. That count leaves out the eSprinter. Unknown or other leads at 33.
At Cline APC, a lawyer reads Daimler Vans USA's filed conditions beside your repair orders and upfit invoices.
- Drive power cut by chafed main wiring or a loose ground (24V166000 and 24V225000)
- Power steering and brake control lost along with drive power (24V166000)
- A parked van that rolls away, with a manual parking brake and seven-speed automatic (22V796000)
- Automatic emergency braking that may be lost if a radar board fails (25V712000)
Say you are an Escondido electrician whose 2023 Sprinter 2500 carries shelving and an outside upfitter's inverter. The van loses drive power twice on Interstate 15. Then the dealer finds chafed wiring near the drive shaft, which fits 24V166000 rather than the shelving.
Which Sprinter Campaigns Turn on Seat, Brake and Frame Configuration for a Lawyer?
NHTSA lists 27 campaigns for 2021 to 2026 Sprinter vans, not counting the eSprinter, as of September 29, 2026. Swivel seats, the parking brake setup, a partition, a third row and the 2500 and 3500 frame members each have campaigns of their own.
| Campaign | Model years | Configuration | Condition | Consequence |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 21V410000 | 2019 to 2021 | Swivel seats | Seat wiring may be routed wrong | Side airbag may not deploy as designed |
| 22V796000 | 2019 to 2022 | Manual parking brake, seven-speed automatic | Park pawl guide bushing may fatigue | Rollaway |
| 23V101000 | 2022 | Electric swivel seats | Seat wiring may be installed wrong | Front side airbags may not deploy as intended |
| 23V876000 | 2019 to 2023 | Partition wall | Bolts may be missing | Wall may detach in a crash |
| 25V135000 | 2024 | Parking brake cable bracket | Welds may fail | Rollaway |
| 25V609000 | 2024 Sprinter 2500 and 3500 | Frame members | May lack reinforcement | Weaker crash performance |
| 25V712000 | 2025 Sprinter 2500 | Front radar | Circuit board may fail | Loss of automatic emergency braking |
| 25V725000 | 2023 and 2024 Sprinter 2500 | Third-row seats | Frame member may lack reinforcement | Seats may not protect occupants |
Say your Oceanside tour business runs a 2024 Sprinter 2500 crew van called in under 25V725000. Still, a recall alone never makes the van a lemon.
Which Recalls Should a Lawyer Want Finished Before an Upfitter Bolts Anything On?
The ones touching parts an upfitter mounts to or relies on. Campaign 23V876000 covers partition bolts, and 25V725000 and 25V609000 cover frame members. Also, campaign 25V712000 covers the front radar board. So finish the recall first, and have the order note any upfit parts removed and reinstalled.
An April 2025 Mercedes-Benz notice extends the EGR valve warranty on certain 2019 to 2022 Sprinters. The new term is 15 years or 150,000 miles, whichever occurs first. A February 2026 notice also does the same for an EGR pressure sensor on certain 2023 to 2025 vans.
Say your partition carries bolted-on shelving when the van goes in for that recall. A Mercedes-Benz Sprinter lemon law lawyer then compares the order with the upfitter's invoice.
Chafed Main Wiring and a Loose Ground on 2023 Vans
Campaign 24V166000 covers certain 2023 Sprinters whose main wiring may chafe against the drive shaft and short circuit. The filing also warns of lost drive power, power steering and brake system control, plus a fire risk. Under 24V225000, a 12-volt ground on certain 2023 vans may not be secured and can overheat, cutting drive power. Either one may be a condition a court finds likely to cause death or serious bodily injury.
Swivel Seat Wiring and a Starter-Generator Cable in Converted Vans
Some camper builders keep factory front seats set to swivel, so 21V410000 and 23V101000 still concern factory parts. Campaign 21V779000 covers certain 2021 Sprinters whose battery case cable duct may drop out of place. The starter-generator wiring may then chafe and short circuit. Campaign 22V073000 covers certain 2021 vans whose weight rating may be misstated on the tire and loading label.
Who Pays When the Dealer Blames the Shelving, and How Does a Lemon Law Attorney Decide?
Cause decides it. Civil Code section 1794.3 sets aside defects that unauthorized or unreasonable use after the sale caused. The booklet also excludes alterations and overloading. Those rules can reach only a defect the upfit or overloading actually caused. So the installer's wiring diagram, a scale ticket and repair orders noting where factory wiring ends show who pays.
The 2025 Sprinter Service and Warranty Information booklet names Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC as the warrantor.
Say the dealer finds chafed wiring near the drive shaft but asks about your inverter tap. Still, an upfit that never touched the failed system should not end the claim.
Upfit Warranties and the eXpertUpfitter Network
Generally, upfit equipment carries a warranty from whoever built or installed it. Mercedes-Benz runs an eXpertUpfitter network of qualified upfitters who follow its guidelines, plus an upfitter portal with technical data. Each path leaves different paperwork. Mercedes-Benz of El Cajon on Wagner Drive offers upfit services. Mercedes-Benz of San Diego on Kearny Mesa Road also runs a separate van desk.
Wiring Taps, Payload and the Junction Where Factory Wiring Ends
Inverters, lighting and refrigeration units often draw power from the van's own system. When an electrical fault appears, Mercedes-Benz may point to those taps, so keep the installer's invoice and diagram. Because the booklet treats overloading as misuse, a scale ticket from a loaded day can answer a payload question. So ask both service departments to note where factory wiring ends.
Does the Van Qualify Before a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Lemon Law Lawyer Counts Repairs?
The van must qualify as a new motor vehicle under section 1793.22, subdivision (e)(2). The presumption in subdivision (b) then treats Mercedes-Benz as having had a reasonable number of repair attempts, the tries the law deems sufficient, once its conditions are met.
Its window runs 18 months or 18,000 miles, whichever comes first. Any defect that substantially impairs use, value or safety is a nonconformity. A nonconformity likely to cause death or serious bodily injury qualifies after two or more repairs. Any other qualifies after four or more repairs of the same nonconformity. Lost drive power or a rollaway may be the first kind. Both also require direct notice, which means writing to Mercedes-Benz yourself, at least once, if the booklet discloses that duty. A third route needs more than 30 cumulative days out of service for repair. Because Mercedes-Benz can rebut it, the Mercedes-Benz lemon law lawyers at Cline APC also build on the full repair history.
Say your two-van Santee plumbing business runs a 2024 Sprinter 2500 on State Route 52. So both the van's weight and the business's vehicle count must pass the business test first.
The 10,000-Pound Line and Sprinter Weight Ratings
Subdivision (e)(2) covers a van bought or used primarily for personal, family or household purposes, with no weight limit. It also covers a new motor vehicle with a gross vehicle weight under 10,000 pounds that is bought or used primarily for business purposes. The buyer, person or entity alike, must have not more than five motor vehicles registered in this state. Mercedes-Benz Vans lists lighter 2026 configurations at gross vehicle weight ratings of 9,050 and 9,990 pounds. Heavier ones, cab chassis included, run 11,030 and 12,125 pounds. So photograph the door jamb label and count every registered vehicle.
Chassis and Propulsion Only in a Camper Sprinter Lemon Law Claim
Subdivision (e)(3) defines a motor home as a unit built on, or permanently attached to, a self-propelled chassis, chassis cab or van. It must also be designed for human habitation for recreational or emergency occupancy. Under subdivision (e)(2), the new motor vehicle includes the chassis, chassis cab and that portion of a motor home devoted to its propulsion. It excludes any portion designed, used or maintained primarily for human habitation. Airstream, Winnebago and Thor Motor Coach all sell campers built on Sprinters. All three sit on the state's electing manufacturer list, for vehicles sold in 2025 or earlier. So a camper may need two pre-suit notices, the demands required only before a suit seeking civil penalties, the added money a court may award for willfulness.
Basic or Diesel Warranty, Which Sets the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Lemon Law Deadline?
The warranty covering the defect sets the deadline. The 2025 Sprinter booklet sets basic coverage at 36,000 miles or 36 months, whichever comes first. Booklets also differ by model year. Diesel engine and powertrain terms run up to 5 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first.
Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC elected the newer procedures on April 30, 2025, for vehicles sold in 2025 or earlier under section 871.30. NHTSA's recall filings name Daimler Vans USA, LLC, which the list omits. So a lawyer confirms the track from your booklet and sale notice.
When a van is sold new in 2026 or later, section 871.29, subdivision (d), requires the manufacturer to name the governing procedure at the sale. For a van sold in 2025 or earlier on the elected track, section 871.21 requires suit within one year after the applicable express warranty ends, and never more than six years after delivery. The written warranty covering the defect is the applicable express warranty. Both limits also pause for repair days and for up to 60 days after a pre-suit notice. The manufacturer must receive that notice at least 30 days before filing. An offer within 30 days of receipt, completed within 60, keeps civil penalties out, and missing either date leaves them available.
Upfit Costs Inside a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Lemon Law Buyback
Restitution, the buyback remedy, returns the price paid or payable less a mileage offset for miles driven before the first repair visit for the defect. Section 1793.2, subdivision (d)(2)(B), excludes nonmanufacturer items a dealer or the buyer installed. On the elected track, section 871.27 lets you recover equipment bought in the sale from the selling dealership but not from an outside company. A $68,000 van that first went in at 6,000 miles would have a $3,400 offset. The buyback calculator runs yours. A buyer who prevails recovers costs and reasonable attorney fees under section 1794, subdivision (d).
Work Van or Camper, Can Your Paperwork Tell a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Lemon Law Lawyer Who Pays?
It usually can. A free consultation at Cline APC sorts your van's defects between Mercedes-Benz and the upfitter or builder. A Mercedes-Benz Sprinter lemon law lawyer also checks the business test and dates each warrantor's deadline from your contract and invoices.
Say your converted Sprinter stalls twice on the Interstate 8 grade near Poway, and the house batteries quit too. The stall may point to Mercedes-Benz, while the batteries may point to the builder.
Nobody can predict how Mercedes-Benz or a builder will answer a demand. The same call can cover the C-Class damages option or Mercedes-Benz GLC lemon law claims.
Send the firm a few lines about the van, or call (888) 982-6915 and mention the upfit or conversion.
